DAILY CURRENT AFFAIRS : 9.7.2013

1. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued a notice to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) over the reported uploading of objectionable video clips of couples recorded inside metro trains to pornographic websites.

2. Glowing tributes were paid to veteran Kashmiri writer and historian Professor Manzoor F...azli who passed away at Bandipore in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.

3. The President Pranab Mukherjee today visited the holy shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti at Ajmer. He offered a Chadar and flowers at the shrine and prayed for peace and harmony and elimination of terrorism.

4. Bhopal police arrested former Madhya Pradesh finance minister Raghav ji in sodomy case.

5. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 9 July 2013 announced the appointment of Abdoulaye Bathily of Senegal as his new Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

6. State Bank of India, in month of July 2013 partnered with a non-banking finance company, UAE Exchange and Financial Services, to launch a card which will enable the holder to receive the remittance directly on the card. The card is named State Bank Xpress Money Card and can be loaded with up to 50000 Rupees.

8. India and Iraq on 8 July 2013 signed a pact to enhance co-operation in energy security, bilateral trade & commerce, infrastructure and others. The agreement was signed between the Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily and his counterpart from Iraq, Abdul Karim Luaibi.

9. As per the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) survey released on 7 July 2013, approximately 40 percent of the Global population or 2.7 billion people are online in 2013.

10. JMM Legislative Party Leader Hemant Soren stakes claim to form new government in Jharkhand.

11. The Union Government in July 2013 hiked the import duty on sugar to 15 per cent from the present 10 per cent to restrain cheaper inflow of the sweetener into the country. The hike in import duty is meant to stabilise sugar prices which in turn help the millers to make cane payments, which at present is estimated at 9000 crore Rupees.

12. Lt. General A.K. Singh has assumedthe charge as 11th Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court Mr. Justice Arun Mishra administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to Lt. Governor in a function held at Raj Nivas, Port Blair yesterday.

13. Lajja Goswami won the silver medal for india in women’s 50-metre Rifle 3 Position event at the International Shooting Sport Federation being held at Granada, Spain.

14. Indian women weightlifters bag the team title in Asian Junior Championships in Kyrgyzstan.

17. As per the survey conducted by Assocham in July 2013 the proposed investments by domestic and foreign entrepreneurs declined by 75 per cent in FY 2012-13.
